THE FREEDOM TO CREATE AND EXPLORE MUSIC'S CAPABILITIES
Quora Flute Quartet is an award-winning ensemble based in Manchester, comprising of four flautists from three countries within the UK and beyond. In 2017 Jack, Katie, Carina, and Rachael met at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in their first year of study, and after expressing mutual musical ambitions, Quora Flute Quartet was formed.
Recent highlights include: winning the RNCM Fewkes Chamber Prize 2020, being named recipients of the June Emerson Wind Music Launchpad Award and being invited as finalists for the RNCM 2021 Christopher Rowland Prize. These acknowledgements got them to receive recognition from the British Flute Society, being featured in their journal Pan. The quartet have also performed annually in the prestigious RNCM Monday Recital Series, and given concerts in Manchester Cathedral, Didsbury Coffee Concert Series, Bury Parish Church Coffee Concert series, at the Whitworth Art Gallery in Manchester and in Uelzen, Germany at the International Kuhlau Flute Competition. In more recent times, music from the quartet has even made it into the living rooms of many, through live-streamed concerts and recordings shared via the Verdun Allen Music Foundation.
Quora is honoured to receive coaching from Rob Buckland, Kevin Gowland, Laura Jellicoe and Susan Milan, amongst other professional musicians. The quartet’s passion is to deliver fresh ideas amongst a wide variety of genres and they are keen to promote new music, recently premiering the new work, Marea de Silencio, by Spanish composer José del Avellanal Carreño.
They are passionate about making music accessible to all, delivering educational and interactive workshops throughout the UK to a range of ages and abilities.
