JACK RAINEY

Jack Rainey is a founding member of the Quora flute quartet and is currently in his
4th year of Undergraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in
Manchester, learning with Kevin Gowland. Jack is fortunate to have had many
opportunities within his time at the RNCM so far, performing in a wide range of
ensembles with an interest in specialising in Orchestral playing. He won the principal
seat in the RNCM Symphony Orchestra in 2020, and after auditions with the
Chamber Orchestra of Europe he was shortlisted for their Professional Experience
Scheme. He also had the privilege of playing piccolo in the Double Bill of the Puccini
operas Suor Angelica and Gianni Schicchi working under world renowned Martin
Andre, and in the following year was back in the flute section of the opera performing
Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites. Jack also was assigned the seat of principle
piccolo for the RNCM Symphony Orchestra project of Mahler 5 in 2019. Alongside
his success playing in chamber music and orchestras, Jack was a finalist of the
RNCM Concerto competition 2019 (being the youngest member in the college to get
this far). He also has been recently awarded the prestigious Peter Lloyd Flute Prize
at the RNCM for the year 2019.

Before starting his studies at the RNCM, Jack was studying flute under Darren
Canmore in Northern Ireland alongside his academic studies at Fivemiletown
College. Jack performed as part of the South Ulster Youth Orchestra as principal
Flute for 3 years along with a year previous as the orchestra’s piccolo player. Jack
has also been fortunate to compete and become a finalist in the Northern Ireland
Young Musician of the Year competition, along with this he obtained the highly
sought-after Ronnie Bothwell flute Prize twice for most promising flute player within
the music service. Jack also has worked with many different groups such as
Traditional Irish music groups which gave him the opportunity to perform a Brand
New work ‘Safe Passage’ by Frank Gallagher for Prince Charles on his visit to Northern Ireland in May 2017.
