
CARINA UDRISTE
Born and raised in Romania, Carina Udriste, one of the co-founders of the quartet, began studying the flute under the tuition of Gabriella Popescu at the High-school of Art Ion Vidu Timisoara. She has progressed quickly since then, and she is currently majoring in flute performance in her fourth year at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) in the United Kingdom, under the tuition of Susan Milan and Janet Richardson (piccolo).
Throughout her development, Carina received the ‘Ion Vidu’ prize for winning many competitions in Hungary, Serbia and Romania while she was a student, and a scholarship from Rotary Club Timișoara District 2241 Romania and Republic of Moldova. In early 2017, before furthering her studies in the United Kingdom, she was awarded the Excellence Award from The International Society for Musical Studies and the First prize at the flute section of the National Romanian Music Competition.
Since she started her musical education, Carina has participated in numerous courses, workshops and masterclasses, working with professional flautists and piccolo players such as Michael Cox, Paul Edmund-Davies, Andrea Oliva, Kevin Gowland, Laura Jellicoe, Katherine Baker, Katherine Bryan, Stephen Preston, Nicola Mazzanti, Anders Ljungar-Chapeleon, Cormac Henry, Daniela Pisano and the Haffner Wind Ensemble. In 2014 she attended a summer course with an international youth symphony orchestra working with the conductor Jean Jo-Roux and three years later an orchestral workshop with the conductor Mihnea Ignat. In recent years, she was grateful to be part in orchestral projects with conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Vasily Petrenko, Vassily Sinaisky and Mark Shanahan, with one concert broadcasted on BBC Radio 3, and had the pleasure to experience playing side-by-side with Manchester Camerata and players from the Hallé. Also, was shortlisted for the Chamber Orchestra of Europe’s professional experience scheme. In addition, her orchestral experience has included playing with the Chamber Orchestra of Manchester and Manchester Light Orchestra.
On top of solo recitals, in 2016 she had the opportunity to perform as a soloist with The Banatul State Philharmonic Orchestra. One year later, during the Timișoara Muzicală International Music Festival, she had another two performances, one being accompanied by the same philharmonic and one with the High-school of Art Ion Vidu Symphony Orchestra. In 2019, after receiving a scholarship for the course, she performed at the British Isles Music Festival and in 2020 was finalist in the prestigious RNCM Concerto competition. During the same period, Carina was involved in the work related scheme offered by the BBC Philharmonic, having the position of assisting administrator for their Learning and Digital Department.
